## How the 2026 numbers work

Income tax is charged at 20% on income up to your standard rate cut-off point and 40% on the rest. In 2026 the cut-off is **€44,000** for a single person, €53,000 for a married couple with one income and up to €88,000 for two incomes. The personal tax credit (€2,000) and the employee credit (€2,000) are taken off the tax bill, not the income.

The Universal Social Charge applies once you earn more than €13,000 a year, in bands of 0.5%, 2%, 3% and 8%. PRSI for an employee is 4.2% of gross pay from January and 4.35% from 1 October 2026, with nothing due below €352 a week and a tapering credit up to €424.

Gross pay is taxed at 20% up to your standard rate band (€44,000 for a single person in 2026) and 40% above it. Tax credits (personal €2,000 and employee €2,000) are subtracted from the tax. USC is charged separately in bands from 0.5% to 8%, and PRSI is 4.2% of gross pay above €352 a week.

### What is the standard rate cut-off point in 2026?

€44,000 for a single person, €53,000 for a married couple with one income and up to €88,000 for a couple with two incomes.

### Do I pay USC on all my income?

If you earn €13,000 or less in a year you pay no USC at all. Above that, all of your income is charged in bands: 0.5% on the first €12,012, 2% up to €28,700, 3% up to €70,044 and 8% on the rest.

### What does the PRSI rate change in October 2026 mean?

Employee PRSI is 4.2% from January and rises to 4.35% from 1 October 2026. The calculator lets you pick either rate; over a full year the difference is small.
