# Research the area you want to live in

1 min read · Updated 13 September 2026

Before making any decisions on where to live in Ireland, it is crucial to conduct thorough research on the areas you're interested in. Take the time to explore different neighborhoods, get to know the local communities, and find out what amenities and services are nearby.

Consider factors such as transportation, access to shops, parks, and other essential services. Seek information about the safety of the area and any other concerns that may be relevant to you. With all this information, you will be in a better position to make an informed decision on the best place to call home in Ireland.

## Is Ireland safe?

Ireland is recognized as a highly safe country, ranking as one of the top-10 safest in the world according to the [2022 Global Peace Index](http://www.en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Global_Peace_Index#2020%E2%80%932022). However, Dublin, being the largest city in Ireland with a metropolitan population nearly double the size of the next largest city, Belfast, may require a different approach in terms of safety. The larger city size can lead to a higher crime rate, so extra caution should be taken when in Dublin compared to other rural areas in Ireland.

## Most Dangerous areas in Dublin

According to crime statistics from 2003 to 2022 released by the Central Statistics Office, the areas in Dublin with the highest criminal incidents are:

**Dublin City Center** - As the most densely populated area, it's important for tourists to take extra caution and protect their belongings.

**Pearse Street** - With the highest number of criminal incidents in the city, the area around Pearse Street Garda station should be treated with caution.

**Tallaght** - This area recorded over 100,000 incidents during the 2003 to 2022 timespan, but it is unlikely that tourists will visit this remote area of the city.

**Blanchardstown** - A residential area with local businesses, tourists should still be vigilant in case they visit this area, which had 100,000 recorded incidents.
